Rivian is a California startup company focused on building electric vehicles at its Illinois factory. Its first models are the R1S three-row SUV and R1T pickup truck. Both are positioned as premium models starting at around $70,000. Both have an EPA-rated range of about 314 miles, but Rivian says a longer range version, as well as a 250-mile model will be available thanks to multiple battery options. The R1T—which is about the size of a Honda Ridgeline—is very quick and quiet. It rides comfortably and handles with relative agility. The swanky interior is uncluttered and exudes a high-tech vibe, but too many functions are annoyingly accessed through the touchscreen, including adjusting the air vents.
